It basically covers factual items,such as books, weapons, survial technology, housing, etc. A plausible scenario, the collapse of the economy and dollar, and the ensuing events appear to be not too far from our current reality.The index of the novel is very unique. Almost like an index to various survival checklists.What is very useful, is how the novel puts various survival strategies, tools, into a realistic context. This is a novel that I could not put down. Although I just finished reading One Second After two weeks ago, I found this novel more practical and facinating.
The ending is like a "good dream" to me. A gripping story, wrapped with good ideas for your own planning. Kudos. It would make one HECK of a good movie. It's kind of like a manual, blended with a good story. I picked up a lot of useful information from it.
Lots of food for thought and ideas on how to prepare for what some think is on the way. This is a great read. Though it is fiction, the story gives a very realistic idea of what could happen in the event of an economic meltdown.
Well, I got a great surprise with this one. This book really opened my eyes to just how close we could be to the edge of a financial collapse.
This is the only fiction book that I've ever read twice. and the survival skills that may be needed afterward.
I bought this book at Costco on a whim, thinking it was a book about the war in Iraq. The way the author scatters very specific information throughout the story is very interesting.
I just saw the cover and threw it in the cart.
Very easy reading and chock-full of great survival ideas and theories.
I think this would have turned out much better if the author had just written a straight up survival reference book instead which would have made the few important aspects of the book much more digestable. They all have the same beliefs, morals and values and character development is non-existent. While I see that a group hard core survivalists would have a similar set of ideals and such, it makes for a very boring novel. I just got this from the library today (fortunately I didn't buy it offhand). Skip buying this book. I skipped thru parts of the rest of the book but the quality of 'storytelling' didn't improve. and I could only make it 4 chapters in before I had to give up on it. All of the characters are faceless interchangable cardboard cutouts.
